Embracing Winter: Visiting The Rideau Canal & The Wintertude Festival

winterlude-ice-sculpture

This Friday my office set some time aside for employees to enjoy Winterlude before it ends this weekend. If you haven’t heard about it before, Winterlude is a winter festival celebrated in Ottawa, Canada’s capital. It usually runs from late January to mid-February. There’s a ton of activities to do, but the major attractions are the Rideau Canal—the world’s biggest skating rink, the ice sculptures, and of course, the hot chocolate and beaver tails. Book Haul: Winter Releases 2015

winter-snow-2015

Snow has finally arrived in my part of the neighbourhood! While it would have been wonderful to have snow on Christmas day, it’s better late than never. Living in Canada, I, as well as other Canadians, love their seasons and I was starting to miss the snow. Winter isn’t really winter without a little white on the ground. Now is the best time to curl up on the couch, sitting by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows alongside a good book. Winter
(The Lunar Chronicles #4)
By Marissa Meyer

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

It’s my party and I’ll…buy books if I want to! That’s right—it’s my birthday!

As I get older, I’m a lot more into low key celebrating, but I still have my own fun. Of course, as a blogger, I figured I’d document what I did and share it with you. Continue reading

Waiting on Wednesday: Fairest by Marissa Meyer

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly feature that spotlights upcoming releases that I’m eagerly anticipating. This week’s “can’t-wait-to-read” pick is:

Fairest-book-coverFairest
(the Lunar Chronicles: Levana’s Story, Book 0.1)
By Marissa Meyer

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.
